The Unlisted Securities Market ( USM), which ran from 1980 to 1996, was a stock exchange set up by the London Stock Exchange.
It is much easier to sell active or listed stocks than to sell inactive, unlisted stocks.
Therefore, a very good rule to follow is to confine one's purchases of unlisted bonds to such as are wanted for a permanent investment, and not buy unlisted stocks.
If a listed company holds more than 10% of an unlisted company's shares, the latter may not hold more than 2% of the former's shares.
Furthermore, this notification is not required if the direct investment involves acquisitions of less than 10% of the stock of an unlisted firm.
